I filosofi e il regno delle ombre : la Logica in Hegel e in Kant

2024 - Bibliopolis

P. 7-21

The aim of this article is to show the recurrence in the philosophical language of the two most important philosophers of modernity, Kant and Hegel, of the expression realm of shadows (Schattenreich). Hegel uses it in his Science of Logic (1812-1816), where he says that philosophers must inhabit this realm, meaning that the phenomenological and logical clarity of the idea must interact with the dimension of darkness and shadow. Half a century earlier, in his Dreams of a Spirit Seer Illustrated by Dreams of Metaphysics (1766), Kant showed that the realm of shadows is the paradise of daydreaming, of complete irrationality, and that human reason needs common sense, sanity and logical causality for its argumentation.
